I agree. I've seen much carry-over in beanies and strategies, believe it or not. It goes back to "do you have to be able to name it to use it?" but sometimes we do need to make strategies explicit and in a common language. I know it sounds like a gimmick, but it really does work in transitional cases. I've seen teachers use the actual beanie babies, and I've seen them use just pictures of the beanies. I'm not sure which I'd do if I had my first grade classroom back.
