I have always felt that one of the best ways to work on determining importance
is through biographies. Many of the David Adler series work well for this.
As you read the book ( for maybe the second time), have the children talk about
what is interesting and what is important. Interesting could
Tony Stead has many ideas for organizing books. His new book Good Choice is
great. Beth Newingham's site has excellent basket labels.

When I taught first grade, I would check the papers myself but all papers were
returned on Friday in a green folder. By doing this the parents knew when to

Our district is doing a book study on Regie Routman's Reading Essentials . We
are presently looking for a guide for this book because it
is going to be done at grade level meetings and also building meetings. I know
that there is a study guide for Teaching Essentials but not this book.

I was on a site about a week ago that had nursery rhymes and poems for
emergent readers. These had color illustrations and the font was age
appropriate.
I am hoping to create poetry notebooks.
