The Arabic Language Technologies (ALT) group at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI http://www.qcri.qa/), is looking for highly qualified researchers to expand the machine translation team. Open Positions: 1-2 Scientists (Senior or Principal Scientists based on experience) 2 PostDocs Typically, we hire fresh PhDs as PostDocs. Candidates for Scientist positions have 2 or more years of post-PhD experience. We are willing to hire researchers for the position of “Senior Scientist” or “Principal Scientist” based on the experience of the candidate. Job Description: Scientists and PostDocs work as part of a research team, collaborating with peer researchers and software engineers. They are expected to publish high quality impactful papers, develop prototypes, and generate intellectual property in the form of disclosures and patent applications. The successful candidates will contribute to the development of speech translation to and from Arabic, including dialectal Arabic. Targeted applications include broadcast news, lecture translation, automatic conference and meeting interpretation, and limited domain dialog systems, esp. for medical domain. Required Qualifications: • PhD in Computer Science or related field, ideally with focus on phrase-based and neural machine translation and/or deep learning and multilingual NLP. • Strong publication record in tier 1 conferences and journals. Contributions to the community in form of open source modules, paper reviewing, mentoring students, organizing workshops and tutorials. • Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written. • Knowledge and experience in several of the following areas: statistical machine translation (phrase-based/syntax), neural machine translation, language modeling, domain adaptation, dialect translation • Experience with open source packages (e.g Tensor flow, Theano, Nematus, GroundHog, Moses, GIZA++, KenLM, SRILM, Kaldi, HTK, etc). • Strong coding skills (C/C++, Java, Python, Perl etc.) and knowledge of standard software development techniques, including version control.
