This morning (Saturday) there was one Eared Grebe at East Landfill Reservoir in
Olmsted County. Other first of the year birds were Sora (calling) and Cliff
Swallow.
Also seen were 2 White-fronted Geese, Ruddy Ducks, Gadwall, Ring-necked Ducks,
Lesser Scaup, Northern Shoveler, Blue and Green-wi

After hanging near Lake Byllesby most of the day, I was rewarded with nice
looks at one Willet at the west end of the lake, by the sand bars. It was
observed from 5:00-5:45 p.m.

A male American Wigeon, bald pate, was seen this morning in the back
entrance ponds of the Embarrass Rice Paddies.
It was associating with a pair of Trumpeter Swans
Recent travels around Dakota County show that the fields have dried out and no
longer are inviting habitat for shorebirds.
The sod fields (Castle Rock, Empire area) are also dry. Many of the marshes
are swollen and the shoreline is in the
vegetation Other shorebird sites:
