This afternoon, after an unsuccessful attempt to see the Gyrfalcon west of
Hastings, we headed for the airport. We made one trip on Cargo Rd in and
back from the turnaround, stopping each time at the places which had been
mentioned in previous posts - no birds and only two birders, also skunked.

The adult gray phase Gyrfalcon first reported by Jim
Mattsson on Dec. 25th was again seen today, Dec. 26 at
11:45 a.m. just west of the town of Hastings, MN Dakota
County. The bird was seen near the intersection of Hwy 55
and CR 42. After unsuccessfully cruising the general
vicinity, we went North

At 8:45 this morning a snowy owl was seen along hwy 53 approximately
halfway between mile markers 46/47. It was on the west side of the
southbound lane perched in a
this morning I went for my annual Christmas morning Sax-Zim bog drive.
Weather was mild, actually above freezing and overcast. Unpaved roads were
very icy.
Even though conditions were conducive for finding hunting owls, none were
seen! The only raptors were 8 adult Bald Eagles and 7 Rough-le
