A substantial movement of birds occurred at Hawk Ridge on August 22, with 241
birds banded. This is the first significant migration of birds since
operations started on August 4th. Sixteen warbler species comprised the bulk
of birds banded, with highlights being a Connecticut and 2
Connecticut Warbler, Philadelphia Vireo, Pioneer Park (Princeton) during a
late lunch walk this afternoon. 13 warblers total between Pioneer Park
Mahnomen Trail (Sherburne NWR) today. 18 total species for week
(interestingly, no Palm or Pine in the mix).
Good birding to all!

Yesterday I found about 200 red phalaropes on the sewage ponds just
southeast of the town of Heron Lake. The only other shorebirds present
were a 20 or so killdeer. There were 40-50 Franklin's gulls and a
smattering of mallards and wood ducks.

Question for someone? We have a bird bath hanging by the feeder.
However, the birds seem to be turning up their beaks at it even though
we change the water daily. It does seem to get dirty rather quickly but
we don't ever see them in it. I am beginning to wonder, based on what I
see floating
