Decided that it was now or never to find out about the growl in the marsh. Was a bit tentative as the sound was not a croak - no epiglottal vibration by air sack percussive gutteral throat clearing croak - but a more resonant combination of post syrinxial cavitation with protective intent.

A male Three-toed Woodpecker was a most unexpected surprise this afternoon, May 8, in our back yard on the 1900 block of W Kent Rd in Duluth. For at least a half hour, from 4:30 to 5:00, it was working on two mostly dead spruce trees before flying off and out of sight. What makes this sight

Hey birders! At 4:00pm this afternoon I found a male Summer Tanager foraging next to the road at Minneopa State Park. The bird was seen on the prairie side off of Hwy 68. Turn left at the first intersection and drive until you get to a wet area that has dead oaks on either side of the road.
