There was a nice warbler wave at Rice Lake State Park, Steele Co. today.
14 warbler species:
Golden-winged Warbler
Tennessee Warbler
Orange-crowned Warbler
Nashville Warbler
N. Parula
Yellow Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler (20:1, yellow-rumped to all other warbler species)

Decided that it was now or never to find out about the growl in the
marsh. Was a bit tentative as the sound was not a croak - no
epiglottal vibration by air sack percussive gutteral throat clearing
croak - but a more resonant combination of post syrinxial cavitation
with protective intent.

I went canoeing on Swan Lake in Nicollet County this afternoon with
one of my college professors and we found a Common Moorhen in the
marsh way out in the middle of the lake. We put in our canoe at the
boat access on the northeast side of the lake and paddled pretty much
straight south from

Peter Neubeck and I shared a great day afield with Peter's son Noah in
Sherburne, Benton, and Stearns County last Saturday, 5/3/08. The highlight of

A male Three-toed Woodpecker was a most unexpected surprise this
afternoon, May 8, in our back yard on the 1900 block of W Kent Rd in
Duluth. For at least a half hour, from 4:30 to 5:00, it was working on
two mostly dead spruce trees before flying off and out of sight. What
makes this sight

Hey birders!
At 4:00pm this afternoon I found a male Summer Tanager foraging next to the
road at Minneopa State Park. The bird was seen on the prairie side off of Hwy
68. Turn left at the first intersection and drive until you get to a wet area
that has dead oaks on either side of the road.

Just looking at the first Ruby Throated Hummingbird of the season
perched on the feeder. Only a few days late from last year's arrival
date of May 4th.

Due to the increasing requests for this web site (are we all data
collectors or what?!?) here is the web site that has the frogs call.
I think it relevant for this list serve because many of us do bird by
ear (not mastered by me at all by the way) and these sounds could help
clear confusin
I saw my last Redpoll on Monday, May 5th - they were quickly replaced by
Purple Finches and Chipping Sparrows the next day.
