Shell Rock River as it meanders through the city of Glenville.
Here in Hartland, a redpoll has fallen in with a gang of siskins and
flinches devouring seed in my yard.

Had a chance to check out the Snowy Owl, with Alyssa DeRubeis and Doug Mayo
at the airport this afternoon. The bird was sitting atop an antenna across
from the glycol facility on Cargo Road from 3:30 to 4:00pm. A flock of Snow
Buntings were also observed just North of the entrance
Still present today on W Melrude rd/59, 1.5 mi E of Hwy 53. Also second hand
report of great gray on E Melrude road, about 2 miles N of 52 (comstock lake
rd)... Both locations have had owls present for several weeks.

I was at Colvill Park in Red Wing today from 10:30AM - 12:30PM and there
were ALOT of Eagles all busy fishing. The trees were frosty and it was a
gorgeous sight! Sad to say, though, there was one American White Pelican
there.

My photos of the bird on that post, taken mid-morning, show whitewash
and what appears to be one or two dead small mammals atop the post.
This might be a favored roost. I parked in the glycol facility
parking lot, then walked the median back toward the owl to avoid
stopping on the road. The

exit the first tunnel. The bird sat there for quite a while as I stopped in the
middle of the road to take some quick picks, there was not really any place to

The Snowy Owl reported from the Mpls-St. Paul airport was easily
found this morning on a lamp post immediately south of the road as
one exits the first tunnel. It moved three times, flushed once by a
runway snowplow and twice by crows. It was on runway edges east of

Yesterday afternoon Ben Inniger and I went searching for Snowy Owls in Blue
Earth County to no avail. But about 15 minutes into our excursion we
encountered an adult Golden Eagle. The bird was in the vicinity of Mills Lake
