While driving north on I-35 this morning I had a flock of about 15 sharp
tailed grouse fly over the highway in Pine County. I've been driving around
and through Pine County for many years and have never seen these birds. I
know they have been here for a while though but not in great numbers.

I had a fantastic time during my 4 hours at Sax-Zim Bog today! One of the
biggest highlights was seeing 10 Rough-legged Hawks throughout the
morning/afternoon. Of the 10, 9 were light morphs and 1 was a dark morph.
There was one instance when I observed 5 Rough-legged Hawks in the air at
one time (
Judith Sparrow and I saw a Long Tailed Duck diving with a small flock of
Common Goldeneyes on the east side of Sucker Lake this afternoon. I assume
it is the same duck that has been seen for several days on Vadnais Lake
immediately to the south. We watched the duck from 3:20 PM until we left at

The CATTLE EGRET is still being seen at the Matt Hurd residence - 43176
Osprey Avenue (CR 1 ). It is often behind the culvert in with the
horses. There is also a second CATTLE EGRET just to the south of the
junction of CR 1 and CR 22 north of town. The bird walked out of the

Today at 3:30 Sarah Joppe and I found a Surf Scoter on Lake of the Isles
near Lake of the Isles Pkwy E and James Ave S.

Vic Lewis and I this pm. Pacific with several common loons. 2 ww scoters. 4
common mergansers. Bald eagle harassing coots. Kingfisher. Hooded
mergansers. Common goldeneyes. Etc.
October concluded on a high note at Hawk Ridge, with nearly 3000
raptors passing in the final four days. The passage even included a
very late Osprey and Turkey Vulture to spice things up on Halloween.
