My good friend Curt Rawn and I decided to get a Birds and Beers going in
Duluth this upcoming week. It's short notice, but on Tuesday, June 19th
we'll meet at 6pm at Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake. Sir Benedict's
(known as Sir Ben's) has the 3rd-largest selection of on-tap beers in
Duluth, and h
Hans de Grys reported five Dickcissels at the Sax-Zim Bog on June
16th on the west side of CR 29, just south of the Watsula Road (CR
747). He saw three singing males and two females.
Shawn Conrad reported a singing Dickcissel in Bovey, Itasca County,
on the 15th near the ball fields and tennis
About 9am saw two young peregrines on concrete support structure that is
under bridge in the water. Hope they learn to fly before they have to learn

The White-winged Dove just returned--I think it's a morning/late afternoon

This past week has been a busy one for me, and I'm really excited to share
the fun sightings and photos from my travels. First off, the Birds and
Beers in the cities two nights ago was a blast! It's always fun to enjoy
good company and have a nice dinner & brewskies with fellow bird nerds.

This morning, a White-winged Dove briefly visited my feeders near Grand
Rapids. I was able to snap a documentation photo of the bird, but
unfortunately it was a film camera because my digital was out in the car
and I couldn't get it without flushing the dove. I suspect this bird may

Today (Saturday) about a dozen of us went on the MRVAC sponsored the Cannon
River Bottoms field trip. The trip represented a leap in faith, as we were
not sure what we would find when we ventured into the wake of the recent
flooding along the Cannon. The trail was not wet, but we only got half wa
