We continue to have 40+ Common Redpolls, a lone Hoary Redpoll and a dozen
Pine Grosbeaks at the Audubon Center feeders. White-winged Crossbills have
been working the tops of spruce trees snapped to the ground by the October
storm. Three Black-billed Magpies have been sharing a deer carcass with

see the Glaucous Gull on Lake Harriet this afternoon. Lacking a functional
scope made it extremely difficult for us to find the bird in the huge flock
that was bunched in the middle of the lake. We had gone in hopes of seeing

Three people asked for the location of the catbird in Shoreview. I answered all
three, but at least one recipient did not receive my e-mail. Perhaps the large
attachment (an inartistic but identifiable photo of the bird) was to blame. If
you asked but did not hear from me, let me know.

Yesterday, December 12th, John and I took a quick trip up to Grand
Marais from Duluth. It was not a birding trip but we did count birds
on-route and checked out the Grand Marais harbor. Results:
Harlequin Duck - adult male Grand Marais
Bufflehead - male Grand Marais
Common Goldeneye - 45

will be a field trip for those that will be participating in the 9th Annual
Golden Eagle Survey which will be held on January 19th 2013. This

At 1100 one common redpoll was at my feeders in Minnetonka.
I just watched a Gray Catbird drinking from the birdbath at the side of our
house! Watched it for several minutes at a distance of about 10 feet. This may
very well be a "count week" bird for the St. Paul CBC. We are in Shoreview,
north of Gramsie, just east of a portion of the Snail Lake trail
