The Hoary Redpoll in Stearns County's St. Joseph Twp. – found on Saturday by
Marco Restani, and seen again yesterday by Herb Dingmann – remains in the
northwest quadrant of the intersection of CR 2 and 270th St. It's in a flock
of roughly 100 Common Redpolls; while I was there, between 0830
The Great Egret refound on the Rochester Christmas Bird Count was seen
again this morning. It was about 100 yards downstream from the junction of
Cascade Creek and the Zumbro River. One good viewing spot is the bike trail
that runs along the west bank of the Zumbro from Broadway to 19th Street.
A friend in Cass County reports a Varied thrush has been coming to his feeders
outside Walker (eating dried fruit) for the past two days. Because of my
personal health issues I am unable to travel but will ask him to photograph the
bird.
For the first time in 4 or 5 years I have a couple of redpolls coming to my
feeders along with a sudden influx of goldfinches.

Today I encountered a rather large flock of Redpolls at the Industrial park at
Randolph Mn.

It was enjoyable to see a nice size flock of Evening Grosbeak come into the
feeder today. Hopefully they will stay as the Pine Grosbeak have.

I had a dozen Common Redpolls on my feeders this morning in Plymouth. I had 3
so far this season before today.

While guiding a birder from Oregon today, we explored much of Sax-Zim Bog,
plus a few immediate outlying areas.
Highlights from the day includes Boreal Chickadees, Evening Grosbeak, Pine
Grosbeak, both redpoll species and more. Our day ended with watching a
Great Gray Owl for 20+ minutes! One of
