Hey, birders:
Late this afternoon there was a male Blue Grosbeak perched on a utility wire
along a gravel mine a few miles southeast of Sleepy Eye. This gravel mine is
along the Cottonwood river and is a location where I've been searching for Blue
Grosbeak at for years but haven't found one un

Subject: [NEBirds] South Polar Skua in OKC
Seen at Lake Overholser in Oklahoma City.

While watching a female goldfinch tear cotton off the "nesting ball" I hung on
my front deck, I observed a mink trundle across my driveway from the pond in
front. I loved Texas during my recent trip, but "only in Minnesota".
I saw a Loggerhead Shrike today, perched near the large rocks to the south of
the pond, on the road to your left as you enter the park. I saw one Horned
Lark and some Mallards and Pied-billed Grebes on the south and north pond, but
it was very quiet, and I didn't hear any meadowlarks, Western
On 8/6, I found 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper in the second to last wet, plowed
field at the south end of Jirik Sod Farms, on the west side of Blaine Avenue,
among many Killdeer. It disappeared quickly, and I didn't relocate it in the
grass or the field.
