Hi all-
Just north of Tofte in Cook co tonight estimated ~ 3700 Common Nighthawks
between 7:25 and 8:15, probably more given that we were not in an ideal
vantage and rate was probably higher than sampled average of about 75
nighthawks/minute. And they were going north... Fantastic sight.

As I expected earlier this summer, the “old” Lowry sewage ponds are now
history.

As a follow up to Kim Eckert's MBW weekend, Doug Kieser and I spent another day
in western Minnesota. We had a total of 16 shorebird species. Highlights
included:
Buff-breasted Sandpipers (4): No Ottawa Impoundment (nw corner) - Grant Co
Am Golden-Plover (5): mown hayfield in Traverse Co just we
Birds never stop surprising me. I was leaving Miller Hill Mall Sunday
evening (Aug. 18) and noticed not "just" the more expected Canada Geese and
Killdeer at the little catch pond that drains the JC Penney parking lot ,
but also a Lesser Yellowlegs, a Semipalmated Sandpiper, and three Baird's
Sand
This morning, two Prothonotary Warbles made a welcomed visit to our yard here
along the St. Croix River just south of Taylors Falls, MN. They spent some
time foraging in multiple trees. They gave us some good looks and brightened
up an otherwise overcast morning.

This evening I spent several hours (until sun-down) along the lake side of
Park Point. One of the big highlights included a brief fly-by jaeger! I am
unclear about the ID of this bird, leaning towards Parasitic. Will post
more about this bird if I happen to hear feedback from friends that live
