I went out to find the Long-tailed duck this morning with Bill Tefft but we
were unsuccessful.
Instead we did see

A drive through of Hamden Slough this morning (-10) revealed a mixed flock
of snow buntings and Lapland longspurs and three rough- legged hawks. One of
the hawks was dark-morph.

What appeared to be a lapland longspur was seen feeding in a snowless ( very
rare habitat these days!!) under the 35w freeway just off of Railroad st. At
8th ave W by bayfront park. I could not get close enough to cofirm ID and no
bins along.

Bob Heller saw a Varied Thrush on December 5th in his yard at 9129 Congdon
Boulevard
(Scenic Highway 61). Bob's yard is visible from Scenic Highway 61, and
observers should
use caution if parking along the road (there should be no need to drive up
Bob's driveway).

Field Trip Report
Enjoyed a chilly day around the metro. Birding at Point Douglas park, in
Washington County and a number of spots along the Mississippi river, plus a
short stop at Carpenter Nature Center.
