My husband and I had a jolly time this morning watching the eider in the
shipping canal. There was a lot of ice in the canal (oddly, none at all
along shore there--that's the funny wind effect). The funnest part of it
was that there were lots and lots of tourists there, and they got a kick

Hello All-
A great photo of the Duluth Common Eider associating with a wild-type and a
domestic mallard was posted to the Minnesota Birding facebook page
yesterday. Seen by Paula Aschim around 11am in the shipping canal.
Thus, the bird is still around, and probably enjoying the cold... did

This bird was present between about 1:30 and 2:00 this afternoon, but as

The snowy owl in the Arbor Lakes area of Maple Grove was again present this
evening though at a new location. The bird was perched on a streetlamp across
from the Hennepin County Library in Maple Grove, along Main Street near the

Connie Jo and I found and photographed a Townsend's Solitaire today on the Long

i just discovered a second Snowy Owl in the same vicinity. This one is also
in the field about 200 yards east of Kane Ave, but about 1/4 mile north of
190th. Because of the contour of the land it can only be seen from the
northwest. The other one is still south of 190th.

I'm reporting this for Dave Bartkey, who found a Snowy Owl near 190th St.
and Kane Ave. I went back at noon and was able to find it about 1/4 mile
south of 190th on the east side of Kane Ave 150-200 yards out in the field.

Many thanks to Andrew Smith for first spotting the bird and also to the CBC;
partially to credit for this find.
I would also like to thank the many other MOU birders who posted excellent
information.
And also appreciate
