I had an excellent look at the Eurasian Tree Sparrow at about 1 pm today, along
with several birding friends. It was moving in and out of the full, wide tree
to the left of the feeders as we the viewed it from the road. Despite the
cloudy sky, its white collar, black bib and chestnut brown
Along Jean Duluth Rd. between CR 259 and CR 286 ar 4:35 pm. This is several
miles south of the Kelly J Ranch bird, so is likely a different hawk owl. ( We
could not refind the Kelly J bird, but others saw it at least as late as 2 pm.)

Butch Ukura called me today with the information that funeral services for
Warren Nelson will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, at First Lutheran
Church in Aitkin, 107 Second Street SE. There will also be a visitation from
6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 5, at Sorensen-Root-Thompson
We found both snowy owls in Rice County this morning, right where Gerald
Hoekstra described them yesterday (thanks!). Other highlights included a big
flock (about 80) of snow buntings at the corner of Dennison Ave and Highway 56,
and a lone horned lark along 190th street.
