A variety of waterfowl were observed this afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park
in Shakopee to include Gadwall, Lesser Scaup, Trumpeter Swans, Redheads, and
Common Mergansers along with the ever-present honkers & Mallards.

Lots of Common Goldeneye and a pair of Gadwall this morning.
This seems to be a hot spot for goldeneye.
The park is across the K-Mart off of Cutters Grove.

Mark Martell from Audubon MN is speaking on GOEAs in winter. The last
survey of the Miss River Valley was just completed. Big numbers of eagles
were found in MN and WI. You might have volunteered for a survey.

I was at the dam this morning with my friend Larry. We saw no gadwall but did
get some Redheads, male and female, a pair of bufflehead, three green winged
teal flying and I believe some ring necks and the usual common mergansers,

This morning there was a Townsend's Solitaire in Duluth Township
along the West Knife River Road (CR 231), 0.7 mile west of the
northern end of the Homestead Road (CR 42). It flew in from the
east, so it would be worth checking the area around the Homestead
Road, too.

Several days of warm weather is bringing welcome changes. We now have some
unfrozen ponds with Canada Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Mallards, Gadwalls and
Pintails. This morning at Hamden Slough there was a beautiful male Northern
Harrier hunting and 14 Greater Prairie chickens in field where Fish &

Hi all,
Friday and Saturday will be the last days the Sax-Zim Welcome Center will be
open for the winter. Thanks to all of you who visited us this winter!
Highlights were 100s of redpolls and siskins (including at least 3 Hoaries),
Ermine at the far rib cage, Shrike, Ruffed Grouse in birches by
Curt Rawn and I just saw 2 Merlins mating at the top of an evergreen near
the road
