Hi
Upon the advise of a couple of birders that I know I went to Lake Harriet
looking for Red Breasted Mergansers. It’s one of my favorite migrants. I came
in on the west side and stopped near the north west corner of the lake and
found two groups of waterfowl with fifty or more birds in each
Xanthochroism is where normal red pigments replaced by yellow. This is also the
cause of yellow cardinals
At the Sax-Zim Bog Welcome Center last winter we had one of these
xanthochroistic redpolls ...or should I say Yellowpoll

Wonderful show except the end where the narrator says deep in our primate
past we too once lived in trees.
I have to say that is shockingly incorrect. And very unbirdy.
Good birding to all today and thankful for creation.

When I closely examined some Redpoll photos that I took this spring, I found
some with orange or yellow feathers on the top of the head. I don't
remember seeing this before. I did some internet searching and found some
photos and references to orange feathers but no explanation for it. Does
