11 members of the Burroughs Birders 4th/5th grade bird club found two large
kettles of Broad-wing Hawks with some Turkey vultures over Lake Harriet in
Hennepin Co.
Many of these young birders (thanks to binoculars provided by the MOU Youth
Mentor Program) also saw….

The Lake Byllesby water drawdown began on September 18th this year, instead of
October 1st. The lake has been very full all summer, and still is, but a few
sandbars and mudflats are visible now on the west side.
This evening I saw Short-billed Dowitchers, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs and
Pect
The Clark's Nutcracker is still in the Winona area today. 24092 Cedar
Valley Rd is on the south side of county rd 9, a mile and one half from hwy
61.
I saw it at the posted house and across the street and to the west.
This bird will come right up to you and is actively foraging for insects
and seed
I arrived at about 7:10 this morning, and at 7:15 the Nutcracker flew in from
across the road into the small stand of trees behind the house. The stand
consists of one conifer and several deciduous. The bird chose to perch
conspicuously at the top of the leftmost deciduous tree. I left shortly
