About 40 people attended the annual MRVAC Hok-si-lah warbler field trip to
Frontenac area in Goodhue County. And, the birding was awesome. I counted
89 species for the day with 21 species of warbler. We found nothing
unexpected, but we did see all six species of swallows and four species of
terns,
Today (Sunday) I heard and saw the first Chimney Swifts. Three swifts were
flying here late this afternoon about twice as high as expected.
Interestingly, we looked for them yesterday and noted their absence.

Two American Bitterns calling near Nord Lake last night. One merlin perched on
the lakeshore near Nord Lake today then flew nearby and stayed calling
vociferously.

Annabelle Watts and I came across a pair of Says Phoebes in the Felton Prairie
area this
morning. The birds were at the gravel pit along 170th st N (the typical
'longspur road'), just
before the first cattle guard crossing. Best viewed by turning left at the
intersection at the
cattle guard.
