The prairie areas at the Belwin Conservancy, in Washington County
(http://www.belwin.org/), have a good collection of grassland bird species. On
a St. Paul Audubon field trip this morning, we found Henslow's, Lark,
Grasshopper, and Vesper among 9 sparrow species at the Stagecoach Prairies (see
Prothonotary Warbler heard and then seen on Foster Island at Miss. West
Regional Park on June 4th. The park is south of Hwy 10 along Traprock St. The
bird could be viewed on the west side of Foster Island near the boat ramp.

Pair found this afternoon with Jerry Pruett and Jeff Stephenson at Upper Sioux
Agency S P in the woods by the far end of the Riverside Campground. This is the
small campground reached via the main park entrance.

This morning finally afforded better views of the Prothonotary Warbler,
male, along the backwater trail near the 35E bridge. Traffic noise was
quiet enough to make its song more audible over other birds' as it was sang
and foraged in the lower reaches of the upper canopy, directly above the
path. T
The possible gull-billed tern was relocated about 12:55 by Joel
Schmidt and myself SE of Salt Lake at a private residence about a mile
north of the lark bunting location (GPS given previously) Nearest
intersection is 170th St and 141 st ave. It was scared off by an
eagle around 1:10 and headed in
I was at Gold Medal Park (Minneapolis), mainly by the 35W Bridge Memorial
near the intersection of West River Parkway and 11th Avenue, from 8:45am to
10:15am today. I finally ended up seeing one of the birds, presumably the
male, foraging in the Scotch Pines just behind the row of Arbor Vitae
(righ
sorry. Didn't finish heading.
180th St. Marsh Dakota County for Willow Flycatcher and Industrial Park,
Randolph for grassland birds.
Last weekend there was a resplendent male Ruddy Duck at 180th st. marsh. And a
small wood duck brood.

Flew father NW into SD and out of sight at 9:05. At 8:45 it had flown in from
the MN side.

A small irruption of this grassland species is currently being reported in
central North Dakota.
