Enjoyed a nice evening at Afton State Park at their Woodcock program. The
group was treated to a couple of close views of woodcocks, and witnessed
their newly arrived Osprey pair mating (raising the question among a
7-year-old in the group, "why is it standing on the other one's head??").

Late this afternoon I saw a Black Scoter (adult, female) at Long Meadow Lake,
from the viewing stand near the Old Cedar Ave. bridge.

On Emery, just south of 160th St, , a Loggerhead Shrike is hunting from the
power lines. After 3 dives into the grass it came up with a large worm,
which it wrestled int submission.

Thanks to Laura Coble's scope and ID skills, she and Rob and I were just
treated to fabulous looks at 2 Marbled Godwits he and I had spotted,
feeding on the West end of Byllesby. Also present were pelicans, teal,
yellowlegs, eagles, kingfisher, yellowrumps, sapsucker, kinglets, pheasant,
and house
