It's been a while since the New Germany/Crane Creek area had water levels that
appealed to fall shorebirds. Conditions are about ideal right now. I counted
over 1,100 shorebirds this afternoon in about two hours of scanning. As is
typical for this time of year the vast majority were Pectoral
I should add that photos were taken and will be posted in due course as soon as
they can be downloaded.

Between 1100 and 1200 today Peder Svingen and I observed a Wilsons phalarope in
the company of a Stilt sandpiper, least sandpiper and a number of lesser
yellowlegs. The birds were in the far end of the ball fields.

Craig Mandel and I birded Clay and Grant Counties yesterday (August 4) in
search of the state's summer rarities. A brief report:
The Western Wood-Pewee was still singing on-and-off, and flying around, at
Buffalo River State Park (Clay Co.). This was around 8:30/9am.
We managed to spot one Say's
The volunteer shifts for the fair are nearly complete. If you have been
thinking of signing up, now is the time. Consider the evening shifts
when it is cool and calm and you can listen to the music. Pretty easy
duty after a day at the fair. Here are the open shifts:
