The rookery at The Marsh on CR 45 about 12 miles south of Owatonna had 3 Great
Blue Herons in it this evening.
It also had an eagle sitting on the edge of the rookery.

One of the first signs of spring at our home is the calls of the pair of
Red-shouldered Hawks that have been nesting in the natural area behind our home
for 13 years, counting this year. They returned on Friday, which is pretty much
right on schedule. We're hoping they nest successfully again
There is currently a flock of around 8 White-winged Crossbills at Mt. Hope
Cemetery south of St. James on county 27. Quietly feeding in the
cone-laden spruces near the service buildings.

With waterfowl migration still quite slow in the county, I was
surprised to see 5 pelicans this morning on the Foot Lake aeration
system just north of Willmar, Kandiyohi county. From Willmar west we
had almost no snow all winter (until March), so many creeks and
spillways are barely...or not
