My wife Denise and I took a nice trip up to Grand Marais last weekend, taking Thurs and Fri off work to make it a 4 day weekend.
I was happy to find and observe the Townsend's Solitaire in the RV Park and get some nice photos, of which I can share links below. I see on ebird the last observed entry on the hotspot listing is Jan. 13, I observed it on Jan. 14 and submitted an ebird checklist (and attached a couple of the linked photos below). https://flic.kr/p/2obUvDG https://flic.kr/p/2obUvEy https://flic.kr/p/2ocBJh6 https://flic.kr/p/2ocGMzQ I saw many Bohemian Waxwings in the harbor area, landing in evergreens and mountain ash trees, feeding on Mountain Ash berries. https://flic.kr/p/2obrNr9 https://flic.kr/p/2obusd1 Quite a few Common Goldeneye in the harbor waters. I saw one Red-breasted Merganser fly by out beyond the breakwaters one morning. I was hoping to see a Long-tailed Duck as I'd seen them reported on ebird, but never saw one. On the way up and back we stopped in at Tettegouche and walked around a bit. I thought maybe there'd be Redpolls and Pine Siskins at the feeders there, as I've seen them there in recent winters, but I saw none. We love going up to the North Shore, so thought I'd share this trip report.
