This morning Anthony Manderfeld and I got great views of a Le Conte's
Sparrow among the copious White-throated Sparrows at the General Mills
Research Nature Area in Golden Valley. There were also Harris's and
Lincoln's Sparrows, along with a couple species of Warblers.

YELLOWTHROAT, MAGNOLIA, WILSON'S, and CHESTNUT-SIDED.
The Warblers were generally pretty easy to find and stuck to the north
side of the area and around the main pond.
It's possible that I missed a few species as I was chased out by the rain.

I found my first ever MN Great Crested Flycatcher at General Mills in
Golden Valley today. Also found many of the same warblers as yesterday,
with Tennessee being a new one here.

was too far out to identify.
We found our first non-Yellow-rumped Warblers also. BLACK-AND-WHITE and
YELLOW WARBLERS were both present.

I've gotten a couple of inquiries about my sightings at Wirth Park and want
to clarify two things:
1.) I stopped by only to see if there were shorebirds on-site today, which
there were. I did not stick around to positively ID any of the birds (but
they're not all Killdeer!).
2.) If you're look
x27;s beautiful out there!

a few Killdeer. It may
be worth checking on this spot in the coming days/weeks while conditions
continue to improve. We also found one each COMMON LOON and GREAT EGRET.
Happy spring (finally)!
