Looked up to see 5 or 6 circling/flying overhead last night around 7:45 pm when
leaving a friend's house in Shoreview.

Had an all white bird with dark wings flit through my yard in Bloomington.
Hope it's not a sign of a harsh winter!

Spotted the redhead again, this time from the comfort of my recliner through
the patio door. It was hopping up the trunk of the big elm tree next door at
about 12:30 pm.

Heading out to work on Friday, I screeched to a halt and backed up in the
street when I saw a red-headed woodpecker in the neighbor's yard 3 doors down.
Flew down to the ground, then back up into a tree. Haven't seen a redhead in
15 or 20 years!

Heard a Swainson's thrush singing from the big elm overlooking my yard in
Bloomington today. What a treat!

ng the sparrows in my
grape vine. Probably a red-tailed hawk? It had a reddish tail with fine
barring, white "V" on the scapulars, dark belly band, but the head was so
light. I have pictures . . .

ew in. It landed in
the bush by the feeders, but didn't stay long enough for me to tell if it was a
loggerhead or a northern. Any tips telling them apart if it comes back? It
was a little smaller than the jays, but I couldn't really say whether 1 or 2".

d. I snapped some
pictures through the patio door which I can e-mail, if anyone would like to
take a crack at an ID.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

fall. 66 survived and went outside
this spring, and we didn't know what we were going to do this fall. So maybe
we'll feed the local herons!

We have a bald cardinal hanging out in our neighborhood. I've seen him with a
female, they might be nesting in the neighbor's evergreen tree. I thought
maybe he just got picked on by some of the other "boys" in the neighborhood.

This hawk showed up one day at the feeders. Not sure if it's after the many
house sparrows or the family of mice that have taken up. Any ideas what it
is?
