You might also look at the Zoom F1 field recorder, one version of which
comes with a shotgun microphone capsule. It will not perform as well as the
combination Justin suggested, but is a one-piece unit small enough to be
carried in the big cargo pocket of my birding vest. It will do a fairly

It was never relocated, to our knowledge, after our original brief glimpse
of it. Given that we have had decent migration conditions the last couple
days I would suspect it did not linger, but there is always a chance it
remained. At the very least, Scharr's Bluff is a fantastic location this
time
Seen around the parking lot by the restrooms/picnic shelter. Do have photos and
will post later. Clear yellow lore spot. It is hard to pick out from the Black
and White Warblers but is tending to stick closer to the ground.

Had a Carolina Wren singing this morning 7-8AM from the residential
neighborhood known as Friendly Hills in Mendota Heights (Dakota County).
The bird was keeping to back yards along Apache St between Decorah Ln and
Cheyanne Ln but calling frequently.
At the end of that section of Apache St is an o
Dale Trexel and I located a Summer Tanager that seems to turn up at Afton
State Park every year at about this time.
The bird was at the North end of the Trout Brook Trail loop when we located
it by call note, and made the diagnostic "pi-tucky-tuck" repeatedly before
switching to the less diagnosti
