Got great looks at a cooperative Northern Mockingbird in the Rothsay WMA this
afternoon. This was my first trip ever to Rothsay so I'll do my best to
explain where I was:
-HWY 94 to the Rothsay exit - go West
-Continue west on County Road 26 west for about 6 miles to Hwy 15

Directions to Courage Center - from Highway 100 turn east on Duluth/Golden
Valley Road and then turn right on Hidden Lakes Parkway. Take the first left an

The Rough-Legged Hawks are already back! Seems rather early to me but there
they were, hovering over the field next to the building I work at. They were
here all last fall/winter. If they continue to show up in the field I will
send directions.

Watched an Olive-Sided Flycatcher hunt dragonflies from a bare tree at marker
36 in Murphy-Hanrehan Park (Dakota County) this morning, 8:30. Late migrant?
Warning - parts of the dog trail are very muddy so it's tough to get back there
without boots.

Yesterday at Carlos Avery - In the SE corner, at the intersection of
Headquarters Rd & Pool 10 Rd - Had a Connecticut Warbler singing at 8:00am &
9:00am, bird was cooperative and relatively in the open. Also in the area were
Blue-Winged Warbler, Mourning Warbler, Black-Billed Cuckoo & Yellow-Bi

Looks like the Male Rough-Legged Hawk is gonna winter next to our building.
Since my last post I've seen him outside every work day, hunting rodents. He
is very successful, on Friday I saw him eat three times (he is out there
hunting right now.) He is coexisting with the big female Red-Tailed

Today between 11:30a & noon the Long-Tailed Duck was on the far Southeast end
of Vadnais lake among a small group of Goldeneye & Mallard. It is easiest seen
