Spotted a Great Grey Owl perched in a tree as I was driving out of Hastings this evening. It was on the south side of Hwy. 55, about 1 mile east of WalMart. I was really surprised to see one this far south this early in the season.

[mou] Osprey Nest on St. Croix

Osprey has returned to nesting platform on St. Croix River, on Hwy. 95 south of Bayport. The platform was still empty last week, and yesterday there was quite a bit of nesting material built up and there was a single Oprey on the platform moving things around. I did not spot it's mate.
