The 2021 Salt Lake Birding Weekend which would have been on April 24th has been
cancelled due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully we will be able to
revive the event in 2022. Anyone birding in Lac qui Parle or Big Stone counties
that weekend could submit their list to me and I will ma

This afternoon I spent almost 4 hours birding at Westwood Hills Nature Center
in St. Louis Park. Besides Robins there were only two other thrushes, one
Swainson’s and one Gray-Cheeked. There were 5 species of warbler including
Canada and Wilson’s. The best birds were a Scarlet Tanager, two Green
Yesterday I spent 4 hours at Westwood Hills Nature Center in St. Louis Park.
Several areas were quite active, the SE corner just west of the new
construction and the north end by the canoe dock. I found 12 species of
warblers including Golden Winged, Magnolia (2),Wilson’s (2), Blackpoll,

The 45th annual Salt Lake Bird Count is cancelled for this year because of
travel and gathering restrictions relating to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Hopefully next year conditions will be back to normal. Stay well and safe

Yesterday afternoon around 4:30 Mary Lou and I found a pair of Blue Grosbeaks
at the intersection of US 212 and 151st Ave. I was able to view the male Blue

This weekend we had a large influx of Pine Siskin’s as many as 52 at one time
although we’ve had a few for three weeks. Also for the last month we’ve had two
Red-breasted Nuthatch’s. At our home feeders near Ridgedale.

It was a beautiful morning in our neighborhood!
After great looks at the elusive Wood Thrush (thanks Tony) yesterday at
Westwood Hills nature center I didn’t think I could it could get any better.
But today after finding 10 Swainson’s Thrush I found and photographed two
Grey-cheeked Thrushes onl

13 Pine Siskin at a thistle feeder at the same time
4 female and 5 male Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the same time
3 female and 2 male Baltimore Oriole at the same time

Great birding today with friend and guide Scott Clark at Sherburne National
Wildlife Refuge, 84 species total.
High water levels throughout and intermittent light rain did not dampen our
spirits.
