We are considering driving up to Duluth Friday afternoon to look for the
Ivory Gull, but I haven't seen any posts about it for a few days. Has
anyone seen it lately? Or, has anyone looked for it without success?
Thanks for any information!

Mark and I saw the Snowy Owl at Hogan and 180th this afternoon about
2:30. There were several photographers there, and unfortunately, one of
them baited the owl so that, from our vantage point, it looked like it
almost hit them as it flew in to get the bait. When we left, the owl was
sitting

Our MRVAC Swans on the Mississippi group was able to rather easily
refind the Iceland Gull at the same location this morning about 10:00

We were not able to find any of the Greater White-fronted Geese at the
pond on Pioneer Drive, but a short distance away we found 30 in a
flooded field. They are just west of Radio Drive, on the south side of
Bailey Road. We parked in the parking lot of Salem Lutheran Church. We
saw them at
It appears to be a Ruddy Shelduck, Tadorna ferruginea. We found it first
in our Birds of Thailand, and then googled it to get more images. There
seems to be some variability of plummage.

We observed a Hawk Owl near Tofte in Cook County along Hwy 61 at
approximately mile marker 89 (there was no mile marker there because of
recent road construction but that is where we extrapolated the mile
marker would be.) The bird was perched at the top of an aspen alongside
the road.

On Dec.31, we observed a Northern Hawk Owl along Hwy 61 about a mile

snag just a few feet from the road, and seemed unconcerned when we
parked along the road
A pair of Surf Scoters was observed at about 9:00AM today while birding
at Hok-Si-La Park, Goodhue County. They were with a raft of Ruddy Ducks.
They were very near the shore when first spotted, and swam further out
as we watched them. When we looked for them again in the same area at

I received a call from a woman in Washington DC who will be in the metro

I'm not able to do it and wondered if anyone could do this. Contact me

Perhaps of belated interest, on 1 April (Fri), I watched 3 male and 3
female Eastern Bluebirds flying around and occasionally landing on a

Yesterday (1/16) we drove from Duluth to I 35 via Hwy 23. We saw a total
of 12 Great Grays, 1 of them in Carlton County and the rest in Pine
County. The first one we saw while driving rather slowly, but the rest
were at highway speeds (so there were probably many more that we
missed). Time was
