Gardens in
Minneapolis seemed way down. I thought it might be the drought and the really
hot weather we had during the late summer/early fall. I'm hoping that was an
aberration.

I'm happy to hear
I don't think ospreys have been impacted much by bird flu since they don’t tend
to eat birds and ducks. Some osprey nests were destroyed due to wind. Glad to
hear that the falcons are doing well. I was seeing a pair in another location
earlier in the season that I'm no longer seeing, but they
positive. That's probably less than the number that actually died and were
eaten by animals, etc. They listed 45 bald eagles. No specifics as to locations
they came from.

Very sad. Eagles and great horned owls were especially hard hit.

I know some people who called the Raptor Center about the owlets at Nokomis.
All 3 owlets are dead, and it's confirmed that it was avian flu. The Raptor
Center also reported that two adults had died in that general area, but a
friend went there after that report was made and saw an adult owl
I saw two of them late this afternoon circling over the river not far from the
Franklin Avenue bridge.

There was a Mute Swan at the Old Cedar
I saw a black crowned night heron at Fort Snelling State Park 2-3 years ago
with most of its upper beak missing. Other than that it seemed fine, but I've
never seen it again so not sure if it survived. I'm sure it makes eating a
challenge.
