I was able to get out this morning for a short while. I re-found the
Tennessee Warblers, that I saw last Saturday, again this Thursday
morning. I observed them displaying by fluttering their wings and
chasing each other around. Maybe they are setting up a nesting
territory? They are at the
Got up in the wee hours of the morning to run my Owl survey route for
Hawk Ridge. Several Saw-whet Owls and Barred Owls were calling. I also
believe that I might have heard a Great Gray Owl calling, although I
hesitate to report it. The Owl was calling along the Nett Lake Road
(CR 23)
I found a Northern Hawk Owl just south of the town of Togo in northern
Itasca County on Hwy 65 at mile marker 207 on Saturday afternoon just
before dusk.

A friend of mine just told me he found a dead Great Gray Owl Wednesday
night on Hwy 73 at mile marker 111 north of Chisholm in St Louis
County. He said he thinks the owl had just been hit by a vehicle as it
was still warm when he found it. This is sad news indeed for I think

I am happy to report that the resident Osprey has returned to its nest
at Crane Lake in far northern St Louis County. The nest is easily
observed from County Rd 24 right by the turn off to the Nelson Road.
Also saw 4 Red Crossbills in their usual location on the side of the
road right before
