Here are a couple of my favorite birds in odd places from a lifetime of
birding:
Best bird out of context -- During my freshman year at college I returned
home for Thanksgiving. Home was about 30 miles north of New York City.
Upon waking in the morning I heard an unusual sound outside the
. If confirmed, this may be a county nesting
record. I would be interested in other birders' observations of
possible nesting lark sparrows, particularly in Hubbard or nearby
counties.

Just to add to the geographic extent of summering white-winged crossbills,
my wife and I heard at least one and probably two at Lake Alice bog in
northern Hubbard County on June 30, 2008.

I'd heard the calls of several of these species, so it was fun to
re-familiarize myself with them.

golden-crowned kinglet, and parula warbler. We missed the olive-sided
flycatcher today and only heard gray jays.

plumage, as opposed to the first basic plumage, which is synonymous with
first fall or first winter plumage (i.e., the first plumage following
juvenile plumage).

Thanks to several people for info on Connecticut warbler whereabouts. I
shouldn't need any further responses, just some good fortune.

Can anyone advise me of a high-probability site for breeding Connecticut
Warblers in north-central Minnesota? I'm near Park Rapids and am planning a
trip to the Boy River area soon. I suspect the best areas will be on that
side of Leech Lake, but I'm not certain. Thanks for any advice!
