This evening (Tuesday) about 7pm I had the opportunity to check out a couple of shorebird spots in Dakota County. The first was a large pond with exposed shore on 170th Street just east of Pilot Knob in the northeast corner of Lakeville. This is pretty good shorebird habitat. I found about 20

I fairly regularly get Northern Waterthrushes in my yard during migration. Warblers are nocturnal migrants, and when they descend at first light are often tired and hungry. If a waterthrush doesn't see suitable water near, it still must come down. Imagine all the inappropriate habitat that birds

Yesterday the ice went out on Quiggley Lake. this morning there were two hen and one drake wood ducks by our shore. One of the hens spent a while in the same wood duck box that yesterday hosted a Hooded Merganser hen. Hopefully, tomorrow I will return home early enough to check out the box.
