I attended a meeting at Wild River State Park today and on the way back I drove along River Road to the town of Sunrise. I saw three great gray owls along this route; one was sitting on a utility pole in section 2, Amador Township. The other two were near the intersection of River Road and Oriole Avenue. One was sitting atop an oak tree, and the other came along and appeared to challenge it; both flew off.
I have been seeing increasing numbers of great grays along Pine County 61 between Hinckley and Sandstone; I drive this route every day to work. I have also seen one great gray owl several times in the vicinity of East Central School just east of the Highway 23 exit off I 35. I have also seen up to twelve owls a day along County Road 30 east of Sandstone and north on CR 21 and 22, and along CR 32 east of Askov.
