Last Friday, July 4, two Henslow's sparrows were heard and seen by
myself and Bonnie Sample on prairie at Carpenter Nature Center
(CNC)along the St. Croix River. The birds were on the north side of
the E-W trail onto the prairie. This trail entrance can be driven and
is just south of the
Susan Fall and I recorded 14 Henslow's Sparrows (all singing males)
this morning along the south horse trails at Murphy-Hanrehan Park,
Scott Co. The specific locations were: between trail markers #31-28,
S of trail (3 males); between #31-32, W of trail (3); between #32-33,
S of trail (4);
Around 5:30am this morning (4/26/07), I found three Henslow's
Sparrows in Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve. The birds were singing in
the area generally southwest of trail marker #32.

locations at the Pet Trails, Murphy-Hanrehan in
This morning I birded mostly Nicolett County and a little bit of Le Sueur
County.
Notables in Nicolett:
-Dickcissels plentiful on any of the county roads west of St. Peter
-Prothonotary Warbler at the Seven Mile Creek Boat Launch- walk the trails north
of the parking lot back to the swampy area
Apologies for the late report: on Tuesday morning (June 7), Holly Peirson
and I saw three Henslow's sparrows and heard a fourth along the Prairie
Interpretive Trail at Afton State Park.

Henslow's Sparrows have returned to Great River Bluffs State Park. Singing
males were heard in the usual location west of the entrance raod and beyond
the 'guard shack'.

I got to the Pet Trails parking lot early this morning while the fog was =
still there. I was surprised to see
There were at least three singing Henslows Sparrows today at Afton State
Park in Washington County. They were in the large field at the northern end
of the park south of 50th Street. This seems to be a reliable spot for
them, and I wouldnt be surprised if they nested here.
