While driving home from work today I 'looped' the city lakes and found 47 tundra swans on Lake Calhoun and 49 on Lake Harriet... mostly adults, but some first-year birds. The gulls were most active but with my compact binocs and the sleet coming down it was difficult to ID any. One very large, dark gull caught my eye but it got lost in the sleet. I imagine the swans will stay the night, so morning might reveal even more surprises.
