A SUMMER TANAGER was found on the 4th by Cameron Rutt and Sarah Glesner in Two Harbors along the 100 block of 3rd Avenue. They also relocated the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at Lighthouse Point, the ROSSS GOOSE at the golf course, and a BLACK SCOTER on Burlington Bay. Another TOWNSENDS SOLITAIRE was relocated along 1st Street at 3rd Avenue on the 30th. Gary Leeper photographed an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER at Lighthouse Point on the 4th by the old rock quarry at the north end of the woods. Jan Green saw an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER on the 1st along the Old North Shore Road (CR 290) in Duluth Township, and Dee Kuder saw one on the 2nd in northern St. Louis County along the Herriman Lake Trail near Knute Lake. Single RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS were seen in Lake County on the 30th at Lighthouse Point in Two Harbors and on the 31st in Silver Bay and along MN Highway 61 about 3 miles east of Illgen City. A female-plumaged HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen by several observers on the 30th and 31st in the Grand Marais harbor. Kim Eckert and others saw two immature RED-THROATED LOONS on the 1st out from the western breakwall, and a 2nd-winter THAYER'S GULL in the harbor. They also saw two SURF SCOTERS over the weekend in Grand Marais, 32 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS near Five Mile Rock and one at Taconite Harbor, 20 BLACK SCOTERS at Paradise Beach and one in Grand Marais, and LONG-TAILED DUCKS at several locations with a flock of more than 40 near Five Mile Rock. Two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen on the 31st in downtown Grand Marais and two were seen along the Croftville Road. Pam Benson found a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the 30th at the Cascade River wayside rest, and saw a flock of eight SANDHILL CRANES fly over Grand Marais. Shawn Zierman saw a CATTLE EGRET on the 29th along Scenic Highway 61 between the McQuade Road and French River, but it was not seen on subsequent days. Denny and Barb Martin relocated the PACIFIC LOON in Duluth on the 1st along Park Point at the 31st Street access. Scott Loss and others saw a BLACK SCOTER and a SURF SCOTER on the 29th at Park Point between 40th and 43rd Streets, and a juvenile PARASITIC JAEGER on Wisconsin Point at the 1st parking lot. Warren Nelson reported a CATTLE EGRET on the 1st north of Aitkin about 8 miles north of the Mississippi River on CR 1 among the horses at 43176 Osprey Avenue (CR 1). Warren relocated it on the 2nd and saw another CATTLE EGRET along CR 1 just south of CR 22. The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, November 11th.
