There are currently some nice birds in the Bemidji area. A Snowy Owl has
been seen in the alfalfa fields near Horace May School on U.S. Highway 71
about two miles of south of Bemidji and U.S. Hi. #2. There is a Great Gray
Owl at Itasca State Park near the U of M Biological Station (Clearwater
County) for the last few days, usually seen around 10 a.m. I have a report
and photos of a male Varied Thrush near Three Island Lake County Park by
Turtle River in Beltrami County and a Townsend Solitaire in Hubbard
County in the Nary area along the Paul Bunyan Recreational Trail. The
Townsend’s Solitaire is the first record for Hubbard County in over 35
years, at least in MOU records.
