Given the camera I use for bird photography is not an expensive DSLR camera with a long reach lens, I thought folks might be interested in a review of the Canon SX60 (my camera). While I recognize that a DSLR and high quality long reach lens provides the best photos possible, that option is also quite expensive, and may not be within the budget reach of many birders.
The Canon SX60 is a "bridging high zoom" camera which costs about $500. It's top zoom is a 35mm 1365 mm equivalent. Read my full review over on my blog. Photographic "before" and "after" examples of Evening Grosbeaks and a Great Gray Owl taken in low light three days ago over at Sax-Zim Bog are included with the post. The only change in the "afters" was to increase the clarity / sharpness using Photoshop Elements ($60).
