Birding the morning with Jim Peterson. Notable sightings; following up on a
call from John Hokema from the previous day we relocated the 2 Ross's Geese
and a large flock of White-fronted Geese at the Kalmar Reservoir west of
Rochester. Soon they were harassed out of the water by a Bald Eagle, they
landed in a field south of the reservoir. Also found 4 Horned Grebes at
the small reservoir south of the landfill. Later we located an early Winter
Wren at the Izaak Walton wetlands. Driving to Lake Louise State Park we
found a Loggerhead Shrike actively hunting the grassy roadside from some
small trees at the intersection of Hwy's 63 and 56. Lake Louise itself was
not very birdy today.
