Spent time in the Chengwatana today with my sister. Did not see but heard the
onk-a-chonk of the American Bittern, the grunt call of at least 3 Virginia
Rail, and whinny calls of Sora Rails. Out in the open water were a few
Ring-necked Ducks, Mallards, a pair each of Canada Geese and Trumpeter Swans, 1
C Loon and 1 Coot. Over head there were N Harrier and Turkey Vultures. Saw E
Phoebe and Swamp Sparrow, no wrens yet. Did not spend much time in the woods.
It was very quiet in them so focused on the wetlands.
We entered the Chengwatana from the Co Rd 10 entrance east of Cross Lake near
Pine City. The road is in good shape. We tried to enter for Co 14 which is
just to the north but the road is BAD.

Julie Grahn from Cook, MN down for a visit in Pine City.
