This evening at dusk in Shepards Marsh, La Crescent I saw a flock of 16
Black-crowned Night Herons circling over the city in tight formation,
vocallizing a hoarse bark, gaining altitude and heading to the northwest. It
was a nice surprise.

Black-crowned Night-herons have returned to Vets Park in Richfield. I
spotted two sitting in the trees on the southernmost island in Legion Lake
(closest to 66th St). Also had large numbers of Ruby-crowned Kinglets,
Yellow-rumped Warblers, Hermit Thrush and FOY Brown Thrasher and
White-throated S
As of 4:00 pm today six BCNH were present in the grove of evergreen trees in
the northwest corner of the intersection of Minnehaha Creek and 28th Avenue in
South Minneapolis. Walking east a along the creek several yellow-rumped
warblers and numerous ruby crowned kinglets were spotted close to t

Yesterday at 4 PM I visited the 3 ponds at Louisiana and Laurel Ave in Golden
Valley
8 Black-crowned Night-Heron, most were in trees on the north side of the pond
right at Louisiana.

Thanks to Tony Lau for finding 7 B-c Night Herons at the ponds north of
Louisiana and Laurel in Golden Valley just north of Menards. I refound them a 4
this afternoon.

I stopped by the pond just north of Menards in Golden Valley looking for
a Green Heron, but instead I found 7 Black-Crowned Night Herons. The
pond is at the intersection of Louisiana and Laurel. I also found a FOY
Palm Warbler there.

Yesterday afternoon there were 5 Black-crowned Night Herons roosting along
Minnehaha Creek, just next to the bridge over Nokomis Ave. Four of them
were dozing in the sun, while the fifth was preening and checking out the
passers-by.
Under the 28th Ave. bridge, a very small and dark flycatcher was
At around 7:45 I watched a pair of adult Black-Crowned Night Herons sunning
themselves in the same tree. This was in Powderhorn Park, along East 35th
Street in Minneapolis. I watched them for about 15 minutes before they slowly
creeped along the branches back into hiding amongst the leaves. T
For the 3rd consecutive day, up to 3 adult BCNHs have been easily visible from
Cliff Rd. in Eagan. From South Roberts Trail (Hi 3) go 1/4 mile west on Cliff
Road. On the south side is a no-name lake with dead trees along the southwest
shore. The birds are in the dead trees. A scope is best. I su
