Hi,

I birded along the Brown/Redwood county border earlier today. I found 3 Blue
Grosbeaks in Brown county (this is just east of Sanborn). Two were singing
along 445th Ave. This is a large gravel mining operation and it’s been
generally dependable to find them here over the years. Usually Sunday is the
best day to bird here as it’s shut down as the rest of the week it’s very busy
with trucks and other equipment, etc. The third BL GR was found a couple of
miles away on the south side of 165th St. (165th borders the Cottonwood SNA on
the north side of the road). It happened to be singing from a solitary tree a
few hundred yards south of the road.

There was another Blue Grosbeak singing from a grove of trees along another
gravel pit along 125th St. just a few miles east of the town of Lamberton in
Redwood county. I’ve had BL GR here before but not every year. Also, there were
Red-necked Grebes on the marsh at Wanda WMA. One of the adult grebes had 3
grown juveniles in tow.

Good birding,
