*Effects of Harvesting Native Grasslands for Alternative Fuels on Birds
and Small Mammals in Western Minnesota *
Presented by *Bob Dunlap *U of M: Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation
Biology
Some grassland birds and small mammals exhibit short- term changes in
abundance following harvesting of native grasslands for biofuels. Planting
native biofuel grasslands creates habitat for a wide variety of prairie
wildlife, but it is important to harvest these grasslands in intensities
that result in the least amount of damage to wildlife populations and
communities.
