Birding with Ben Jacques today we found 3 red crossbills at Cut Lake- west
of Pine River and 7 white winged crossbills just south of the pine river
crossing at Brockway lake. Also 5 flocks of hundreds of redpoles each that
contained 3
I saw a flock of unidentified crossbills flying across/down the road on CR 65
on the north end of Vermillion Lake in Cass Co. on 12-16-14. Unfortunately,
they wouldn't land where I could get glass on them.

I planted a lot of sunflowers this year and they grew up to 12 feet high.
While sitting on a swing and watching the Goldfinches tear into them I
noticed a few other birds ripping them up. I looked through my binoculars

The White-winged Crossbills reported yesterday on the west side of
the Twin West Chamber of Commerce office in Plymouth are there again
today. Photo opportunities were very good: eye level, 20 feet away,
full sun. It was fun.

One thing I noticed in our area where crossbills have been feeding you will
find spruce trees with lots of cones on the ground under the tree were they
were feeding. At least if you see this you will know they are or have been in
the area.
