Already significant amounts of raptors have been documented by the survey including a total of nearly 600 Bald Eagles, as well as other species like Merlin, Golden Eagle, Northern Goshawk, Red-shouldered Hawk and Rough-legged Hawk. This years survey will continue to run until June 15th and peak movements should occur during the last two weeks of April and first two weeks of May. Support for both the birding community as well as the citizens of the Keweenaw have been outstanding- I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation for this project. You can follow along with the seasons progress and see photos by reading the the blog maintained by our staff counter Max Henschell at Keweenawraptorsurvey.org. In part to the generous support of the Laughing Whitefish Audubon, Copper Country Audubon and Michigan Audubon as well as donations from individuals from over the Midwest, we were able to provide funding for the 2010 spring count season. However this is a three-year research project and we are not done procuring funding for the next two seasons.
